Seminars
LTC knows the importance of having access to good role models and people to aspire to and felt this was very important for our athletes. Role models inspire children to stay motivated, instil good behaviour, influence life decisions, and strive to achieve goals.
Therefore we make sure each year we recruit expert individuals from different fields who are excellent role models to educate and inspire our athletes by using their own stories and wisdom. We strongly recommend parents and guardians to attend the seminars also.
Below is a list of some of the people we have had to deliver a seminar to our athletes so far:
Jack Nowell
England Rugby Player
Jack talked to the KHP athletes about a variety of topics from strategy to achieving peak performance to teamwork and leadership. Jack was really keen to reinforce that his career was down to a lot of resilience and how we all go through setbacks in life whether it be an injury or lack of selection. He emphasised that it was important to come back stronger each time.
Sasha Corbin
England Netball Player
Sasha talked to the KHP athletes about her own journey to representative level and her own pathway to sporting success. Sasha’s main point was that hard work always brings its rewards just be patient.
Jack Green
2 time Olympian and Motivational Speaker and Mental Wellbeing Expert
Jack Green is a double Olympian having represented Great Britain at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games in the 400m hurdles and 4x400m relay events. Jack became a mental health ambassador for Mind and Young Minds after being diagnosed with depression, bipolar tendencies and anxiety shortly after the 2012 Olympic Games. Jack has also worked with the House of Commons on the topic of mental health reform in elite sport.
Jack talked to the KHP athletes about his own story and how anxiety and depression affected his mental wellbeing. He shared practical tips you can use to manage your own well-being and which allowed him to then reach for high performance.
Dr Joe Dixon
Stoke City & Bath Rugby Sport Psychologist
Joe spoke to our KHP athletes about exploring stress and resilience in elite athletes. He gave lots of examples of stressful sporting situations that athletes can go through and gave practical solutions for our athletes to use.
Major Paul Mattin
Former Royal Marine, Motivational Speaker and Adventurer
Paul talked to the KHP athletes about his greatest achievement which came in 2006/07 when he led a team of four who skied ‘unassisted’ the 700 miles to the South Pole, before retracing their route with the aid of power-kites. The 1,400 mile journey, achieved over some 71 days, saw the team join a roll of only seven other adventurers to ever have completed such a feat.
Sam Roberts
Performance Mindset coach and BT Sport commentator
Sam Roberts is also a coach, specialising in getting people to perform to their best. Sam spoke to the KHP athletes about speaking to others or speaking to themselves in order to perform at their best.
“Whatever your position in life, whatever your age or skills, being in control of the way you think will change the way you feel.”
Sam Underhill
England Rugby Player
Sam talked to our KHP athletes about preparation for big matches or sports performances. He went through his weekly rituals from eating habits to recovery strategies. He talked at length about embracing failure and dealing with setbacks. He also talked about dealing with nerves and anxiety before matches and gave the athletes a few ideas on how to help them prepare before performances.
Kate Shilland
Performance Nutritionist Crystal Palace F.C
Kate spoke to our KHP athletes about how small adults have their own unique set of physiological and metabolic needs and a heightened requirement for specific nutrients in order to meet the needs of growth and development. Kate also spoke about the nutrient demands young athletes need when balancing heavy training schedules, schoolwork, and social activities.
